Elite Eight Picks

NOVEMBER 15: Elise

This one was tough. Alice is Jacob’s grandmother’s name, and it was the one name that appeared on both of our lists from the very beginning. In this match-up though we both were drawn to Elise (remember when we told you about the Clara/Eliza compromise?). By a hair, Elise took the round.

That’s the last of the Elite Eight Picks! Final Four starts tomorrow!

NOVEMBER 14: Joan

Jacob: “The name Joan belongs to two of the biggest badasses in history.”
Andrea: “Joan of Arc. Whom is the other?”
Jacob: “JOAN JETT.” (in all caps, because he literally yelled this with a stone cold face.)
Joan wins.

NOVEMBER 13: Amelia

The only Colette that really comes to mind is the daughter of Heather Dubrow from the Real Housewives of Orange County. They called her Coco, which is cute, but her mom also has a champagne button in her closet so we weren’t sure if that was really the vibe we were going for. On the other hand, there’s Amelia Earhart, intrepid explorer and possible castaway survivor. This one was more of a no-brainer (sorry to LITERALLY ALMOST EVERYONE who was convinced we wouldn’t pick anything BUT
Colette). Amelia wins.

NOVEMBER 12: Catherine

We both like Charlotte, but so does the rest of the world (it ranked number 7 in popularity in 2017). Catherine is both Andrea’s middle name and a distant family name. We may have a Junior on our hands. Catherine takes it.

NOVEMBER 11: Clara

This one was kind of a compromise. We each liked a different one, but were willing to compromise on Clara because other names similar to Eliza appear elsewhere on the list. Clara it is.

NOVEMBER 10: Greta

Jacob thinks it’s possible one might associate the name Greta with milking a cow, but he added it to his list anyway because it’s also kind of cute. Amity might cause one to think solely of the Amityville Horror and that’s way worse than thinking of cow udders. Greta clinched it.

NOVEMBER 9: Eleanor

Despite the fact that Wikipedia tells us there are lots of interesting and historical Camillas through time, Jacob only thinks of Camilla Parker-Bowles, whom he resents for her lewd affair with Prince Charles. Seriously. He has lots of strong feelings about her. Anyway, Eleanor won.

NOVEMBER 8:   Penelope

Carnelle was Jacob’s grandmother’s name (on his mom’s side). It’s a fun, unique name, with a little bit of sass. However, a potential “Penny” nickname won out and Penelope took the round. (Sorry, Scott, who was convinced we would never like Penny as a nickname.)
